Pierce College cross-country teams split double-dual meets Friday.

Los Angeles City College did not have enough runners to field a complete team, so it forfeited to both teams from Pierce and Santa Monica City College.

Santa Monica’s men’s team defeated Pierce, 15-38. Santa Monica women’s team won by forfeit over Pierce because the Brahmas failed to fill out its team. The Pierce women were credited with the win over L.A. City because there were more Pierce runners than L.A. City runners.

The individual winner of the men’s meet was Alfonse Swai of Santa Monica, with a time of 20:00 on the four-mile course. The top runner for Pierce was Hagen Pedersen, who was fourth with a time of 21:36.

The Pierce men’s and women’s teams have identical 2-3 records.

The women’s cross-country team at Los Angeles Valley College defeated both Trade Tech and Glendale by 15-40 scores in a double-dual meet Friday.

Valley had the top four runners, led by Gretchen Lor with a time of 16:00. She was followed by teammates Kim Stewart (16:05), Sandra Martinez (16:55) and Donna DiMaggio (18:37).

Valley’s men’s team did not fare as well, losing to both schools. Trade Tech defeated the Monarch men 18-37, while Glendale won, 23-32.

Trade Tech’s Abel Ramos finished first with a time of 19:27. Valley’s top runner was Reggie Dechard, who came in third with a time of 20:04.
