Heavyweight Boxing Series Goes to Troy
Troy, N.Y., has been picked to host the second match in an ongoing heavyweight boxing series between the United States and the Soviet Union, the USA Amateur Boxing Federation announced.
The match, part of the 1985 USA-USSR Heavyweight Invitational Series, is slated Oct. 23 at the RPI Fieldhouse in Troy, a spokesman said. The series’ first match was scheduled earlier for Oct. 19 in Atlantic City, N.J.
The competition features fights in the 178-pound, 201-pound and over-201 weight categories, with eight bouts planned for each match.
“We are very excited about this competition,” said James Fox, director of the boxing federation.
