San Diego State’s Volleyball Team Defeats Lamar in National Invitational Tournament
The San Diego State women’s volleyball team beat Lamar, 15-6, 15-5, Thursday night in pool play at the National Invitational Tournament at UCLA.
The No. 12 Aztecs (15-6) face No. 7 Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Oregon today.
The top eight qualifiers in the 20-team tournament advance to the quarterfinals, which take place tonight. Eleven of the nation’s top 20 teams are entered in the event.
In other action:
Chapman 3, U.S. International 1--The Panthers put together successful rallies to beat the visiting Gulls, 17-15, 15-13, 12-15, 15-12, in nonconference action.
USIU held a lead of four points or more in each of the games it lost. Middle-blocker Claudia Johnson and outside hitter Nancy Dome led the Gulls with 19 kills apiece.
Chapman (12-7) is ranked No. 10 among NCAA Division 2 teams.
