FALL SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS : Hart Cross-Country Teams Easily Handle San Gabriel

Both Hart High cross-country teams extended unbeaten Foothill League records to 3-0 by beating San Gabriel, 15-50, Thursday.

The top finisher for Hart was Frank Flores, who ran the three-mile course in 16:02. Bob Bans was second for Hart with a time of 16:21, while teammate Glenn Johnson was third with a time of 16:31.

For the girls, Lisa Rizzo of Hart was first with a time of 19:07, while the Indians’ Andrea Rakov was second at 20:22. Teammate Heather Hauser was third with a time of 21:05.

Santa Ynez High water polo, ranked No. 1 in 2-A Southern Section, beat Calabassas, 14-7, in a Frontier League game. Calabassas goalie Jon Berke had 20 saves and Greg Ruh led the team with four goals. The loss leaves Calabassas 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the league.

Undefeated Chaminade girls volleyball beat Bell-Jeff, 15-9, 15-9, 15-10, making it 17 league wins in a row for the Eagles. Chaminade’s 6-1 middle blocker Daiva Tomkus dominated the courts with 18 kills and 10 blocks. Eagle outside hitter Melissa Ingalls had 10 kills in the match which put Chaminade 8-0 in the San Fernando Valley League.

Birmingham cross-country, undefeated last year in league meets, defeated El Camino Real High 16-46. Birmingham’s Sven Haug came in first on the three-mile course with a time of 16:15. Coming in a close second was Birmingham’s Jeff Korn with a time of 16:16.

Chamindade girls tennis beat Immaculate Heart, 5-1. No. 3 singles player, Sarah Eipe led the Eagles (4-0).

Undefeated Simi Valley cross-country defeated Camarillo, 15-45. Pioneer Jim Zimmer came in first with a time of 16:38. He was followed by Neff McGhie, 16:36; Travis Briggs, 16:38; Chris Pressman, 16:50; and Adrian Ruiz, 17:09.

Simi Valley is 5-0 in the Marmonte League as they leave today for San Diego to compete in a Mount Carmel Invitational for a sweepstakes race.

Alemany girls volleyball beat Immaculate Heart 15-4, 8-15, 15-6, 15-10, improving their record to 6-2 in the San Fernando Valley League.

Alemany senior outside hitter Cindy Carlson led the Indians with three kills and two blocks. Alemany’s setter, sophomore Jenny Rector maintained consistent was a key factor in the Indian win.

Montclair Prep girls volleyball came back after a 12 point deficit to beat Western Christian 15-5, 15-12, 13-15 and 17-15. Junior middle blocker Cheryl Conly had 31 kills for the win which left Montclair 7-2 overall.

Westlake girls volleyball beat Camarillo 15-12, 16-14, 13-15 and 15-5 making them 7-1 in the Marmonte League. Westlake senior outside hitter Alissa Evans had seven kills, sophomore out side hitter Jenny Corwin had 6 kills and senior middle blocker Kim Pum had five kills.
