Junior running backs Tim Hollinger rushed for 107 yards and Lani Machado added 97 to lead Tustin High School to a 10-0 Century League win over Orange on Northrup Field in front of 300.

The Tillers (1-1, 2-3) let their running game carry them. Of Tustin’s 326 total yards, 316 came on the ground. They held Orange (0-2) to 160 total yards.

“It was just a survival game,” Tustin Coach Marijon Ancich said. “We needed this one after last week’s loss to Villa Park, and because we play Foothill next week, which is one of the best teams in the state. Against Foothill, we won’t be able to make the same mistakes we made tonight. We really have to improve 100%.”

Tustin opened up the scoring late in the first half when the Tillers drove 46 yards in nine plays, capped by Hollinger’s three-yard run.

The score remained that way until Tiller defensive back Brian Hardin intercepted Mike Stock’s pass on the Tustin one-yard line early in the third quarter.

The Tillers drove all the way to the Orange 12-yard line in 18 plays, taking almost 10 minutes off the clock, before a holding penalty forced Tustin to settle for a 25-yard field goal by Tim Kotlar.

“The reason we relied on our running game tonight was because we had a sophomore quarterback starting his first league game,” Ancich said.
