Just when it looked like Polytechnic High had staged a dramatic comeback victory over Reseda, Reseda staged a dramatic comeback victory over Poly.

Only 1 minute and 15 seconds after Poly had taken a 24-20 lead, Reseda’s Daryl Mickens hit Ronald Wilkinson with 2:52 left with a 41-yard pass to lift the Regents over the Parrots, 27-24.

Shortly before the last-minute heroics by the Regents, Poly apparently had won game. The Parrots, starting from their own 20, used a 17-play drive before Jerry Gilmore took a handoff on a draw play and ran it in from 13 yards out.

The win improves Reseda’s record to 2-0 in the Pac 8 League while Poly evens its record at 1-1.

On only its second play of the game, Mickens lobbed a 56-yard scoring pass to David Wilson. Robert Loomis’ extra point gave Reseda a 7-0 lead.

Following the kickoff, Wilson recovered a Gilmore fumble on the next play from scrimmage, but Poly’s defense dug in and the Regents were unable to score when Loomis missed a 22-yard field goal attempt.

Poly proved it could also come up with the big play. The Parrots drove 80 yards in nine plays, finishing the drive when Donald Senegal passed to Cary Perkins to tie the score, 7-7.
