Nonleague Roundup : Led by St. Clair, Troy Rallies to Hand Savanna a 48-26 Loss

David St. Clair passed for three touchdowns and returned a kickoff for another Friday night to lead Troy High School to a come-from-behind 48-26 win over Savanna in a nonleague game in Anaheim’s Glover Stadium.

St. Clair completed 13 of 18 pass attempts for 186 yards and rushed for 53 more in 8 carries as the Warriors improved their record to 3-2. The Rebels are 1-4.

St. Clair’s performance offset a fine game by Savanna quarterback Tony Osendorf, who completed 11 of 20 attempts for 297 yards and 4 touchdowns. Ricky Ramos teamed with Osendorf on touchdown pass-plays of 49 and 42 yards.

Troy, which trailed early 7-0 and 14-6 but rallied behind the play of St. Clair. St. Clair returned a kickoff in the first quarter 89 yards for a score to cut Savanna’s lead to 7-6. With 2:42 to go in the half, St. Clair completed an 11-yard scoring pass to David Shirota to give Troy the lead for good at 27-20.

In other nonleague action:

Cerritos 29, Garden Grove 0--Andre Wooten rushed for 152 yards and 1 touchdown to lead the Dons past the Argonauts in front of 400 in Garden Grove Stadium. Cerritos (2-3) scored 15 points in the first quarter en route to handing the Argonauts (0-5) another loss.

Gary Tunstall opened the scoring with a 53-yard interception return in the first quarter. Tunstall also scored the Dons’ final touchdown when he caught a 15-yard pass from quarterback Greg Pilioglas in the third quarter.

The game was marred by penalties. Cerritos was cited for 13 penalties for 120 yards and Garden Grove was penalized nine times for 80 yards.

Anaheim 30, Buena Park 14--The Colonists took a 30-0 lead and went on to rout the Coyotes in front of 1,100 in Spaulding Stadium. The win improved Anaheim’s record to 2-3. Buena Park is 0-5.

Earnest Johnston, playing quarterback and linebacker, had a two touchdowns, a safety and three sacks to lead the Colonists. Johnston, a junior, completed 4 of 9 passing attempts for 68 yards.
