A fire that started in the garage of a two-story house spread to two neighboring homes, causing $68,500 in damage early Tuesday morning, the Orange County Fire Department said.

Fire Department spokesman Joe Kerr said no one was injured in the 2 a.m. blaze at the home of Joe Spoto in the 16700 block of 16th Street. Kerr said the flames caused severe damage to the two cars in Spoto’s garage, then spread to the house and two homes next door. About 25 firefighters from the Orange County and Huntington Beach fire departments had the fire under control in about 30 minutes.

Spoto’s home received the worst of the damage, $20,000 to the structure and $40,000 to the contents, fire officials said, adding that a home next door, owned by Larry Kline, received $7,500 in damage and another home, belonging to Charles Salvar, received $1,000 in damage.

Kerr said fire investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire, which may have been an electrical malfunction.
