San Diego Volleyball Roundup : Aztec Women Lose in Tournament Final

The No. 15-ranked San Diego State women’s volleyball team was beaten by Texas, 11-15, 15-9, 7-15, 15-5 and 16-14, in the final of the Longhorn Invitational Tournament at Austin, Tex. Saturday night.

Diane Watson had 22 kills and 5 blocks for the 12th-ranked Longhorns, and Lauar Neugebauer also had five blocks.

San Diego State was led by Kris Morton, who had 20 kills and 12 blocks. Sally Larsen had 16 kills and Aneglica Jackson added 16.

The Aztecs fall to 20-12, Texas is 12-5.

In other action:

UC San Diego at the Occidental Invitational Tournament--UCSD, the 11th-ranked team in Division 3, defeated Menlo College of Palo Alto to take the championship of this tournament at Occidental College. The Tritons beat Menlo College 15-10, 15-10.

Janet Hughes, Jennifer Pettigrew and Kim Stonecipher had seven kills apiece for UCSD. The Tritons (24-13) had beaten Mills College, Westmont and Southern California College to reach the final round.

Loyola Marymount 3, University of San Diego 0-At Loyola Marymount, the Lions swept the Toreros, 15-2, 15-3, 15-7. USD is 0-6, 0-18. LMU is 4-2, 11-9.
