Sweetwater High School Moves Into Top Spot in Prep Rankings

Share

The defeat suffered by Helix High School last week caused a reshuffling of The Times’ Top 10, as Sweetwater moved into the top spot and Helix dropped to a tie for fifth with Orange Glen.

The Highlanders, No. 1 in the poll since the season began, are 6-1 after losing, 31-25, to Granite Hills. Sweetwater (7-0) with a 32-game winning streak, had been No. 2 all season.

Vista and Granite Hills, which join Sweetwater as the county’s only remaining undefeated teams, are ranked second and third, respectively.

Two other ranked teams--Fallbrook and Bonita Vista--also lost. Fallbrook fell from sixth to ninth after it dropped a 10-0 decision to Torrey Pines. Bonita Vista was No. 8 last week, but the Barons’ 17-9 loss to No. 9 Chula Vista dropped them from the Top 10.

Replacing Bonita Vista in the Top 10 was Crawford, which moved into the No. 10 spot after beating previously undefeated Christian, 28-0. Crawford was ranked earlier in the season, but fell from the Top 10 after suffering a loss and a tie.

Two games will pit ranked teams Friday night. Orange Glen plays host to Fallbrook and No. 4 Lincoln meets Crawford at Patrick Henry.
