Wackerman Runs Wild for 234 Yards to Lead Sunny Hills Over Buena Park

Running back David Wackerman rushed for 234 yards and scored 2 touchdowns Friday night to lead Sunny Hills High School to 26-0 Freeway League victory over Buena Park in Spaulding Stadium.

Wackerman was the Lancers’ rushing leader, but sophomore David Chisum made a successful debut as a starting quarterback. Chisum completed 6 of 8 passes for 114 yards and 2 touchdowns as Sunny Hills improved its league record to 2-1 and overall record to 4-4.

The Coyotes (0-3 and 0-8) trailed, 13-0, at the half. Sunny Hills put the game away with a 13-point third quarter.

Sunny Hills’ defense permitted Buena Park only 12 yards total yards in the second half. In the game, Sunny Hills outgained Buena Park, 373 yards to 105.

Wackerman, who carried the ball 27 times, scored on runs of 57 and 45 yards.

Sunny Hills took a 7-0 lead at 5:07 of the first quarter when Tim Imperiali caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from Chisum. The Lancers made 13-0 at 8:27 of the second quarter after an interception by Steve Choy ended a promising Buena Park drive and gave the Lancers the ball at their own seven-yard line. Six plays later, Wackerman capped a 93-yard drive with a 57-yard scoring run on a draw play.
