Valley College 23, Cal Poly SLO JVs 0--Sophomore running back Clifford Cannon rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown as Valley College defeated the Mustangs at Cal Poly.

The visiting Monarchs used 10 rushers and amassed 260 yards on the ground. Valley quarterback Neosia Morris connected on 6 of 13 attempts for 125 yards and one touchdown.

It didn’t take long for Valley to strike. The defense, ranked second in the state, scored two safeties in the first quarter to take a 4-0 lead.

“The defense totally dominated the entire game,” Valley Coach Chuck Ferrero said.

Final statistics left no doubt of that. The Monarchs allowed the Mustangs a meager 132 yards of total offense.

In the second quarter, Morris connected with sophomore tight end Richard Ane on a 40-yard touchdown pass to make the score 10-0 at the half.

The Monarch offense scored twice more in the second half. The first was on a 51-yard reverse play in the third quarter by sophomore wide receiver Willie Howze. The final touchdown was scored by Cannon on a six-yard run.

Valley is 6-1 overall.
