FALLBROOK QUARTERBACK BARRICK MAY MISS TONIGHT’S GAME AGAINST VISTA

Fallbrook High School quarterback Scott Barrick is expected to miss tonight’s game against Vista because he has a strained rotator cuff.

Barrick, San Diego County’s second-leading passer (139 of 268, 12 touchdowns and a 225.3 yards per game average) missed last week’s 35-7 victory over Mount Carmel.

He began throwing again Wednesday, but Fallbrook Coach Tom Pack said he probably won’t decide if Barrick or wide receiver Bill Dunckel will start at quarterback until just before the game, but he is leaning toward Dunckel.

In his second start at quarterback this season, Dunckel threw for 272 yards and ran for 129 last Friday.

“If Scott can play it opens up other areas for us,” Pack said. “When Bill plays quarterback, we lose an outstanding receiver. When Scott plays quarterback, we are a better team.”

Before the season, Pack was undecided whether Barrick or Dunckel would start at quarterback. Dunckel was Jaime Miramonte’s backup last year and Barrick played on the junior varsity.

Dunckel is fifth in the county in receiving with 35 catches for 576 yards and 5 touchdowns. He said he would rather play receiver than quarterback, but has become used to playing everywhere.

Against Orange Glen, Dunckel played strong safety, receiver, returned kickoffs and kicked three extra points.

“I also taped Scott before the game,” Dunckel said.

Dunckel and Barrick are good friends and call audibles by using hand signals and nods of at the line of scrimmage.

“If Barrick plays, I think Fallbrook might be a little more potent,” Orange Glen Coach Jeff Carlovsky said.
