San Diego Section Field Hockey : Serra, Torrey Pines in Final

Cindy Skordas scored late in the first half to give the Serra High School field hockey team a 1-0 win Thursday over Fallbrook in the semifinals of the San Diego Section playoffs at Serra High. Skordas picked up the loose ball after the Fallbrook goalie tried to clear it from her end.

The win moves top-seeded Serra (19-0) within one game of winning is seventh straight San Diego Section championship. Serra will play Torrey Pines for the title at 11 a.m. Saturday at Serra High. A consolation match for third place between Fallbrook (14-6) and Bishop’s will precede the championship match at 9 a.m.

Torrey Pines 2, Bishop’s 1--The No. 2 seeded Falcons (13-4) scored two second-half goals to complete the comeback against No. 3 seeded Bishop’s (13-7) in a semifinal game at Torrey Pines High. Torrey Pines’ Karen Buijnorouski tied the game, 1-1, on a goal 20 minutes into the second half. Sara Olson scored the game-winner seven minutes later, when she scored off a rebound.
