The Mira Costa High School girls’ volleyball team swept Newport Harbor in three games, 15-4, 15-4, 15-10, to win the State Division I title Saturday night before a crowd of 2,000 at the Golden West College gym.

The Mustangs (24-0) had little trouble in the match, trailing by no more than four points in any game. In the second game, Newport Harbor looked as if it might recover from the drubbing it took in game one, but Mira Costa scored 15 unanswered points. Junior Megan McCallister served three aces during the run.

In the first game, the Mustangs scored the first eight points before Newport Harbor could break serve. After the Sailors scored twice, Mira Costa upped its lead to 14-2 before going on to win, 15-4.

South San Francisco 3, Ojai Nordhoff 2--The Warriors (24-1) lost the first two games, 10-15, 10-15, before coming back to win the last three, 15-13, 16-14, 16-14 to win the state Division II title. The Rangers finished 21-1.

Game point in the final game came when the Nordhoff bench called to let a serve go that dropped in for the winning point.

Southern California Christian 3, San Andreas 1--The Flames, losers last year in the state final, defeated the Redskins, 15-7, 15-8, 4-15, 15-8 to win the Division III title.
