Site of Muir-Hart Game Holds Up Scheduling of Two CIF Southern Section Title Games

Share

The sites and dates for all but two games have been set for this weekend’s Southern Section and City high school football championship games.

Newhall Hart, which will meet play Pasadena Muir in the Coastal Conference final, and Canyon of Canyon Country, which will play Antelope Valley for the Northwestern Conference final, would both like to play at College of the Canyons. It looks like the Canyon-Antelope Valley game will be played Friday night and Hart-Muir Saturday night. However, Muir would rather not play at College of the Canyons at all, despite losing the coin flip, and is holding up finalization of both games.

The other Southern Section games are set, all for 7:30 Friday and Saturday nights.

Friday night, Long Beach Poly (11-1) will play Huntington Beach Edison (11-2) at Anaheim Stadium for the Big Five Conference championship; Westminster La Quinta (11-2) will play Santa Ana Saddleback (12-1) at Orange Coast College in the Central Conference; Claremont (12-1) will play La Verne Damien (9-4) at Citrus College in the Eastern Conference and Covina Charter Oak (12-0) and Diamond Bar (13-0) will play at Mt. San Antonio College in the Southeastern Conference.

All three of the City championship games will be played at East Los Angeles College, Bell (11-0) playing Roosevelt (8-2-1) Thursday at 5 p.m. in the 2-A title game, and Chatsworth (8-2-1) meeting Fairfax (11-0) for the 3-A title at 8. Carson (10-1) will play Banning (9-3) in the 4-A game Friday night at 7:30.
