San Diego Prep Girls’ Basketball : Point Loma Beats Fallbrook for 60th Consecutive Victory

Point Loma High School, the defending State Division I girls’ basketball champion, extended its winning streak to 60 games Thursday when it beat visiting Fallbrook, 88-25.

Forward Terri Mann scored 44 points and grabbed 30 rebounds to lead the Pointers (3-0), who were playing in their round-robin Point Loma--7-Up Tournament. Fallbrook, which lost, 86-52, to Point Loma in last season’s 3-A championship game, fell to 5-1.

The game’s outcome was never in doubt. Led by Mann’s 19 points and dominating defensive play, the Pointers led, 25-8, after one quarter. By halftime, Mann had 30 points and the score was 49-10.

Center Jessica Benton added 13 points and 9 rebounds for Point Loma, while point guard Chenelle McCoy scored 12. Forward Laurie Trujillo scored eight points to lead Fallbrook.

Point Loma Coach Lee Trepanier took his team’s 60th straight win in stride, noting the Pointers are building toward the Tournament of Champions Dec. 20, 21 and 23 at UC Santa Barbara. Point Loma is seeded second behind Christ the King High School of New York.

In other Point Loma tournament action Thursday:

Crawford 44, Mira Mesa 29--The Colts (2-1) took a 33-12 lead at halftime and held on to beat the Marauders despite foul trouble in the second half. Center Shawndell Reddic scored 21 points for Crawford before fouling out with five minutes to play in the game.

“We were pretty much in control,” Crawford Coach Jeff Olivero said. “But we didn’t play very well in the second half, more or less because of Shawndell’s foul trouble. We just got sloppy at the end.”

La Jolla 42, Serra 31--Trailing 19-13 at halftime, the Vikings (1-0) outscored the Conquistadors, 15-8, in the third quarter and continued to stretch their margin in the final period at Serra. Point guard Colie Anderson scored 20 points to lead La Jolla.
