Three Prep Tournaments Begin Today

Three tournaments will begin today and another one will end as local high school basketball teams make final preparations to start or return to league play next week.

The 16th annual Baron-Optimist, the Rohr-Aztec Co-ed and the Ben Fisher Memorial Tournaments all get underway today. Meanwhile, the Peninsula Tournament finals are scheduled for this afternoon.

Eight boys teams will compete in the Baron tournament at Bonita Vista High School. Host Bonita Vista will play CETY’s in the first game at 2:30 p.m., followed by Crawford vs. Kearny at 4, Madison vs. Vista at 6, and Morse vs. Burnaby (British Columbia) at 7:30.

The Rohr tournament includes eight boys and eight girls teams competing for separate championships at Montgomery High.

Today’s girls’ games include: Castle Park vs. El Cajon at 8:30 a.m.; Brawley vs. Ramona at 10; Valhalla vs. La Canada (Los Angeles) at 2:30; and Central (El Centro) vs. Montgomery at 4.

Today’s boys’ games include: Marian vs. El Cajon at 11:30; Christian vs. Montebello at 1; La Canada vs. Mar Vista at 5:30; and Montgomery vs. Brawley at 7.

The Ben Fisher Memorial is an eight-team girls’ tournament at Point Loma.

San Marcos will play Patrick Henry in today’s first game at 9, followed by Point Loma vs. Chula Vista at 10:45, Inglewood vs. Bonita Vista at 12:30 and Hawthorne vs. Sweetwater at 2:15.

The finals of the Peninsula Tournament will be played today at Point Loma, beginning with the fifth-place game at 3:30. The third-place game is at 5:15 and the championship game is at 7.
