NBA Roundup : Cummings Scores 35 Points as Bucks Down Bullets, 114-98

Terry Cummings scored 35 points, and the Milwaukee Bucks fought off a fourth-quarter rally by the Washington Bullets to score a 114-98 win Thursday night at Milwaukee.

The Bullets, who trailed by as many as 23 points in the third quarter, pulled within 98-92 on a three-point shot by Leon Wood with 4:09 left. The Bullets closed to 103-96 on a three-point shot by Gus Williams with 2:13 to play, but got no closer.

Wood, acquired four games ago from Philadelphia, had a career-high 25 points for the Bullets. Williams had 24, including 20 in the second half, and Dan Roundfield had 20, all in the first half.

Ricky Pierce had 19 points for the Bucks, and Paul Pressey had 18.

The Bucks took an 83-60 lead on a jumper by Sidney Moncrief with 1:54 left in the third quarter before the Bullets began their comeback, scoring the last 10 points of the period.

Manute Bol, Washington’s 7-7 center, was called for illegal defense three times in the fourth quarter. Ricky Pierce made the technical foul shot each time for Milwaukee.

Atlanta 116, Cleveland 99--Dominique Wilkins scored 26 points, and the Hawks won for the seventh time in eight games by beating the Cavaliers at Atlanta.

The Hawks rolled to a 71-45 halftime edge on the shooting of Wilkins and Randy Wittman, who scored 18 points.

Cleveland, loser of five of its last six, scored 21 straight points in the third quarter to cut Atlanta’s margin to 78-74 with 3:06 left in the period.

The Hawks rebuilt their lead to 89-78 after three periods and were never in trouble the rest of the way.

World B. Free scored 26 points for Cleveland, and Roy Hinson had 21.
