Three former Chapman College athletes, including current head baseball coach Mike Weathers, will be inducted into the Chapman College Athletic Hall of Fame next Wednesday night.

Also being inducted are Bob Maimbourg (track and field) and Wayne Snell (basketball).

Weathers was a two-time All-American for the Panthers in 1970 and 1971 and helped lead Chapman to the regional playoffs in 1970. During the summer of 1970, Weathers was the third-leading hitter on the U.S. Pan-American Team.

After graduating from Chapman with a degree in history, Weathers played in the Oakland A’s and Toronto Blue Jays organizations before turning to a career in coaching.

Weathers served as an assistant coach at Fullerton College in the late ‘70’s before getting the head coaching job at Utah in 1980. After two seasons at Utah, Weathers returned to Chapman as an assistant for two years before being named head coach in 1984. In two seasons, Weathers’ teams have compiled a 68-44-2 record and was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Coach of the Year in 1984.

Maimbourg, a versatile athlete, set two school track and field records during his junior year (1964) that still stand. He set records in the 100-yard dash (9.8) and pole vault (14-9) and was named Chapman’s track and field Athlete of the Year in 1964.

Snell earned seven varsity letters in three sports during his four years at Chapman. Snell, Chapman’s student body president and Athlete of the Year as a senior in 1952, earned three letters each in basketball and baseball and one in track.

The induction banquet and ceremonies will be held Wednesday, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Anaheim Marriott. The guest speaker will be Detroit Tigers manager Sparky Anderson.
