Women’s Basketball Roundup : Waikle, Eiland Lead Saddleback to 95-75 Win

Connie Waikle led all scorers with 35 points and Cheryl Eiland added 29 as Saddleback College defeated Golden West, 95-75, in a South Coast Conference women’s basketball game Friday night.

The Gauchos’ win kept them in a three-way tie for first place with Orange Coast and Fullerton with a 6-1 conference record. Golden West is 2-5.

In other South Coast Conference action:

Fullerton 74, Rancho Santiago 58--Sandy Cotton and Julie Bjork scored 16 points apiece to pace the Hornets at Fullerton. The Dons’ Holly Wood led all scorers with 18 points and teammate Connie Abrams scored 16 points and had 13 rebounds. Fullerton is 6-1 and 18-5. Rancho Santiago is 0-7 and 8-13.

Orange Coast 88, Mt. San Antonio 46--The Pirates took a 30-5 lead en route to an easy win at Orange Coast. Mary Thobe paced Orange Coast with 22 points and Lisa Shoemaker added 15 points and 12 rebounds. Jeanetta Smith had 16 points to lead the Mounties. OCC is 6-1 and 17-4.

Cypress 78, Compton 69--Sophomore guard Cheryl Hoffman scored a career-high 35 points to lead the Chargers at Cypress. Cypress is 2-5 and 7-11, Compton is 2-5 and 9-9.
