It Becomes Tougher to Break Into San Diego Prep Basketball Rankings

Share

There were few changes in this week’s Times Top 10.

The top five teams--Poway, El Camino, Morse, Serra and Castle Park--all won both of their games last week. The Top 10 had a combined 17-2 record.

No. 6 Mira Mesa and Point Loma, a newcomer at No. 10, were the only teams to lose last week. Mira Mesa was beaten by No. 4 Serra and Point Loma lost by one point to No. 3 Morse.

With all of the top teams doing well, it is tough for the county’s other teams to make the rankings.

El Capitan (12-3) and Sweetwater (12-6) both won a pair of games last week but failed to crack the top 10. El Capitan will get a chance to improve its position when it plays host to No. 7 Mount Miguel at 5:30 today.

Patrick Henry and Madison fell out of the rankings by dropping two games last week. Both teams are 0-3 in the tough City Eastern League. Their places were taken by Mount Carmel and Point Loma.

Poway, which has won five straight games, continued to be ranked No. 1, followed by El Camino.
