ORANGE COUNTY BOYS’ BASKETBALL : Orange League : Valencia Tops Western, 49-37, and Moves Into Second Place

Valencia High School defeated Western Wednesday night, 49-37, to move into second place in Orange League boys’ basketball action in Valencia. Senior forward Kevin Jones scored 14 points and had 7 rebounds, and teammate Norman Nakawaski added 8 points to lead the Tigers. Valencia is 3-2 in league and 11-6 overall.
Western forward Troy Joseph scored 22 points, but no other Western player could score more than four as the Pioneers (2-3, 7-10) fell into a three-way tie for third with Savanna and Anaheim.
Anaheim 38, Savanna 34--Neither team shot better than 40%, but senior Al Pacheco scored 14 points and Tony Robuffo added 12 as the Colonists beat the Rebels to improve to 2-3 in league and 10-8 overall. Savanna is 2-3 in league and 4-11 overall. Both teams are tied for third with Western.
Brea-Olinda 77, Magnolia 40--Kevin Walker scored 17 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and had 10 assists to lead the Wildcats (5-0, 17-4). Teammate Vincent Francis scored 15 points to go with 6 assists and 5 steals. The Wildcats outrebounded the Sentinels, 39-18, even though Magnolia has two of the county’s top 10 rebounders in Mike Lyons (12.4) and Mike Goff (11.4). Magnolia fell to 1-4 in league and 6-11 overall.
Brea-Olinda leads the Orange League by two games over second-place Valencia.
