Orange County Prep Basketball : Foothill Beats Villa Park for 19th Straight

Senior center Stephine Fleischaker scored 17 points and had 9 rebounds to lead the Foothill High School girls’ basketball team to a 57-36 victory over Villa Park in a Century League game Saturday. Fleischaker was also 7 of 8 from the free-throw line.

The win kept the Knights (10-0, 20-1) two games in front of Tustin in the race for the league title. Foothill’s Chris McFearson added 10 points, and senior forward Becky Sullivan was the leading rebounder with 13.

Foothill has won 19 in a row after losing its second game of the season to Esperanza.

Villa Park (5-5, 11-8) had two players score in double-figures: senior forward Lynne Leagux (13 points) and sophomore Suzie Barnett (11).

Tustin 49, Canyon 36--The Tillers (8-2, 12-6) remained two games behind first-place Foothill with a win over the Comanches at Canyon. Andeie Nelson and Darcy O’Brien each scored eight points for Canyon, but it was not enough as the Comanches fell to 5-6 in league and 10-8 overall.

In Sunset League action:

Fountian Valley 70, Ocean View 55--The Barons (6-0, 19-4) had four players in double-figures--Dawn Lawler (18 points), Melessia Handley (16), Jackie Cook (15) and Sue Walin (12)--in the win over the Seahawks. Ocean View (3-3, 12-8) had three players in double-figures: Dalene Lawson (18), Trina Valchos (15) and Dana Douty (10 points and 11 assists).

In South Coast League action:

Capistrano Valley 45, Dana Hills 15--Junior forward Caylin Combs (17 points and 11 rebounds) and sophomore center Heather Schoney (16 points and 11 rebounds) led the Cougars (5-4, 13-6) over the Dolphins.

In Alpha League boys’ action:

Newport Christian 57, Avalon 49--Junior guard Scott Cooper scored 14 points and teammate John Adachi added 13 to lead the Conquerors past the Lancers at Newport Beach. Senior Forward John Williams scored 17 points for Avalon.
