Baker Takes All-Around, Leads CSUN Women to Gymnastics Win

Stacy Baker placed first in the all-around and uneven bars Saturday as the Cal State Northridge women’s gymnastics team won the Air Force Academy Invitational Gymnastics Tournament in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Northridge team score was 170.9. Northern Colorado finished second at 169.9, Southwest Texas State was third at 162.3 and Fort Hays State was fourth at 143.5. Air Force was fifth with 143.05 points.

Baker’s all-around score was 34.55, beating second-place finisher Sue McKinney of Fort Hays State by half a point. Baker scored a 8.90 in the uneven bars and was fifth in the floor exercise with a score of 8.7.

CSUN’s Caroline Balet won the balance beam with a score of 8.65. She was fifth in the uneven bars at 8.65.

Monica Mayes was fourth in vaulting at 8.85, fourth in uneven bars at 8.7 and sixth all-around with a score of 33.85.

Laura Bertussi tied for third in the balance beam with Mish Zink of Southwest Texas at 8.55. Bertussi was sixth in vaulting with a score of 8.75.

Debbie Meadows placed second in the floor exercise with a score of 8.95, while Peggy Bayless was fifth on the balance beam with a score of 8.45.

Northridge faces Cal State Long Beach at home on Friday at 7 p.m.
