Southern Section Soccer Playoffs : El Toro Girls Beat Estancia With Second-Half Blitz, 4-1
El Toro High School scored twice in the first three minutes of the second half Wednesday to break a 1-1 tie and went on to defeat Estancia, 4-1, in a girls’ CIF Southern Section 4-A wild-card soccer playoff game at El Toro.
Kim Carlander and Dana DeAvila scored for the Chargers to open the second half. Jenny Dix and Cathy Schick also scored. The win moves the Chargers, the No. 3 team from the South Coast League, into a first-round game Friday at Torrance, the Ocean League’s No. 1 team.
In boys’ soccer action:
Capistrano Valley Christian 6, Brentwood 1--Tim Terrell scored three goals to lead the Eagles to the 1-A wild-card win at Brentwood. Jim Morrison, John Niednagle and James Helmuth also scored for Capo Valley Christian. Eagle goalie Kevin Kepner recorded six saves.
The Eagles, No. 3 team from the Olympic League, play at Fillmore, No. 1 team from the Tri-Valley League, Friday.
