COLLEGE BASKETBALL : Valley Women Win Conference With Rout of Antelope Valley

Sophmore center Tina Johnson scored 24 points and had 15 rebounds, and sophmore foward Jill Daniels scored 22 with a game-high 19 rebounds, as Valley College won the Mountain Valley Conference basketball title, 80-64 over Antelope Valley, Saturday night.

Johnson scored 20 of her points in the first half, when the Lady Monarchs jumped out to a 52-30 advantage.

The victory gave Valley (17-11, 9-1) a two-game lead over Trade-Tech with one game left. The Lady Monarchs play at Canyons on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Jennifer Wright led Antelope Valley with 14.

Cal Lutheran (women) 67, Point Loma Nazarene 63--Cal Lutheran defeated Point Loma Nazarene in its final NAIA District III regular-season game at Point Loma.

After playing reserves through much of the first half, Cal Lutheran trailed at halftime, 34-25. The Regals began the second half with their starting lineup and regained the lead with four minutes left.

Lutheran was led by junior guard Kim Peppi, who had a team-high 20 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Senior guard Joni Thompson added 17 points while foward Gloria Phillipps had 10 rebounds.

Ann Duffy led Point Loma with 23 points. Shannon Anderson added 15 and Monica Leach had 14.

Lutheran finished the regular season with a 6-10 conference record and a 14-12 overall mark. The Regals will play host to Fresno-Pacific on Monday in the opening round of the District III postseason tournament.
