Starr’s 27 Points Lead Nevada-Reno Past USD, 70-61

Chris Starr scored 27 points and Luvina Beckley added 16 Wednesday night to lead Nevada-Reno to a 70-61 victory over the University of San Diego in a West Coast Athletic Conference women’s basketball game at Reno, Nev.
Nevada-Reno (16-8, 6-5) shot 72% from the field in the first half to open a 37-30 lead. USD (15-10, 8-3) was led by forward Debbie Theroux with 14 points. Torera guard Julie Evans scored 12 points before injuring her ankle midway through the second quarter.
USD will take a break from conference play to travel to Anchorage, Ala., for the Northern Lights Tournament beginning Friday. The Toreras will open against SMU.
