Grand Canyon College Sweeps Past USIU

United States International University’s baseball team lost a doubleheader to Grand Canyon College of Phoenix Sunday, 10-6 and 4-1.

In the first game, Grand Canyon took a first-inning 2-0 lead on shortstop Daron Duffy’s two-run homer. USIU tied the game 2-2 with two runs in the second and had built up a 5-3 lead by the sixth. John Ronis and Steve Hendrix hit solo home runs for USIU in the inning.

But in the sixth inning, Dan Duckison hit a grand slam off USIU starter Ryan Long (1-5) to cap a five-run inning for Grand Canyon.

The Gulls scored their only run of the second game in the first inning, on a double by right fielder Hendrix. The Antelopes then scored their four runs on two sacrifice flies, a balk and a wild pitch.

USIU drops to 3-16. Grand Canyon is 13-2.
