College Baseball : Jacas Leads USD Past Biola, 3-2

Leadoff hitter Dave Jacas went 3 for 5 and scored two runs, including the game-winner, to lead the University of San Diego to a 3-2 non-conference victory over Biola at USD Tuesday.

Jacas led off the ninth with a single and a stolen base. After a walk, Dave Rolls grounded into a fielder’s choice to put runners on first and third with one out. Sean Baron singled to center to score Jacas. The Toreros are 9-4-1.

The Eagles (5-2) had runners on first and third with two out in the ninth, but reliever Brian Tharpe (1-0) got the next hitter to ground out.

Rolls was 2 for 3 with two doubles and Andy Roberts was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored for USD, which had 10 hits.

The Toreros play host to San Diego State Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

In other action:

Cal State Dominguez Hills scored four runs in the first inning and then coasted to a 10-6 win over UC San Diego Tuesday afternoon at UCSD.

Craig Grebeck went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, including a solo home run in the third, to lead the Toros (11-3). Scott Murray also had two hits and two RBIs for the winners, who scored all of their runs in the first four innings.

Dan DiMascio and Derek Alkonis homered for UCSD (5-9-1).
