Names in the News - April 3, 1986

Carlos Zambrano, Santa Monica High School senior midfielder, was named to the All-CIF Southern Section 4-A soccer team, and Culver City High senior midfielder Daniel Pena was named to the third team.

Second-team 1-A selections included Brentwood junior forwards David Leit and Matt Lublin.

A 10-man bicycle racing team has been named to represent the West Los Angeles ICN Velo Club La Grange. Members include Jonathon Matthews, sixth in the national cycling championship road competition last season in the senior division; Neal Fraser, fourth in road and second on the track among juniors, and Dan Stein, 12th in time trials among juniors.

Cuong Nguyen was the overall winner in Marina del Rey Junior High School’s first cross country race, which was run on a 1.5-mile course.

Nguyen, also the winner among eighth-grade boys, finished in 8:59. Aaron Layton finished second overall in 9:03, and Jose Gomez was third in 9:15.

Winners in the ninth grade were Kevin Schermerhorm in 9:30 and Alexandra Forbriger in 10:07. Sharon Nakhla finished first among eighth-grade girls in 11:53.
