San Diego College Baseball : Nowak Pitches No-Hitter for UCSD in 8-1 Victory Over Claremont
Rick Nowak, a freshman right-hander, pitched a no-hitter Friday to give UC San Diego a split of its nonconference baseball doubleheader with Claremont-Mudd College at Claremont. Nowak struck out seven and walked three in the 8-1 victory.
Nowak retired the first 12 batters he faced before a walk and two errors allowed Claremont to score in the fifth inning.
In the first game, Claremont scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 5-4 victory. UCSD is 10-14-1 and Claremont is 12-12.
Loyola Marymount 12, USD 4--A two-run single by Jim McAnany highlighted a six-run third-inning outburst for the fifth-ranked Lions at USD. Mark Stomp (10-1) pitched the first eight innings.
