Hawaii Takes First Two Games From the Aztecs in Baseball
After rallying to beat San Diego State, 7-6, Saturday, the University of Hawaii opened a doubleheader Sunday with a 10-0 victory in a Western Athletic Conference baseball game played in Honolulu.
Hawaii (23-11) was led by Markus Owens, who was 4 for 4 with three runs batted in. In addition to a triple, Owens had three doubles to set a school record. Rusty Elsberry (3-4) took the loss for SDSU (20-12).
In Saturday night’s game, SDSU led, 5-3, before Hawaii scored four runs in the sixth inning. Three of the runs scored on Randy Oyama’s bases-loaded bloop double. Mark Furtak (5-2) got the win for Hawaii.
Mike Erb took the loss for SDSU. After allowing a run in the first inning, SDSU had taken the lead on a three-run home run by Rob Angus.
