Share

While every other San Diego County high school baseball league begins play by the end of the week, the City Eastern League must wait a couple of weeks.

Since the teams are waiting, the coaches in the league decided to play an in-league preseason tournament. In games Monday, Pt. Loma beat Patrick Henry, 9-1, while Serra beat Mira Mesa, 10-7.

Pt. Loma 9, Patrick Henry 1--Chris Reading pitched a complete-game eight-hitter and Rigo Beltrand hit a three-run home run in the third inning to lead the Pointers (9-2) at Pt. Loma. Beltrand’s home run capped a five-run rally that gave Pt. Loma a 7-0 lead. Pat Evenson had three hits and three RBIs. Danny Talman and Larry Jackel each had two hits for Patrick Henry (7-2).
