Walton, Egan Receive Honors

Bryant Walton, a 6-foot 4-inch guard from Saddleback High School, was named The Times’ Orange County boys’ Player of the Year Saturday at a basketball awards brunch at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim.
Bryant averaged 24.3 points per game, 11.2 rebounds, 6.4 assists and shot 56% from the field. He will attend the University of California in the fall.
Carrie Egan, a 5-8 junior guard from Brea-Olinda, was named the girls’ Player of the Year.
Egan averaged 18.3 points and led the Wildcats to the 3-A championship last season.
Mark Thornton, who led Capistrano Valley to a 27-3 record, was named the boys’ Coach of the Year. Thornton’s teams have won 100 games over the past four seasons.
Mark Trakh, who coached Brea-Olinda to its fourth consecutive Southern Section final and its first championship last season, was named the girls’ Coach of the Year.
