Cerritos Beats Cypress in Softball on Unearned Run

An unearned run in the third inning was enough for Cerritos College to gain a probable berth in the Southern California Regional softball tournament as the Falcons beat Cypress, 1-0, in a South Coast Conference playoff game Wednesday at Golden West College.

Sheri Veloz’s third-inning hit got past Cypress center fielder Debbie Holler and rolled to the fence, enabling Veloz to score.

Tony Tucker allowed six hits and struck out two to get the win. Shannon Foster gave up five hits and took the loss. Cypress (31-14) stranded runners at third base the first three innings.
