San Diego Prep Baseball : Tejcek Steals Show in His Supporting Role, Wins 6-1

Share

Jimmy Tejcek has to wonder what he has to do to get into Mount Carmel’s pitching rotation.

Tejcek held host Orange Glen to only two hits and an unearned run to pitch the second-ranked Sundevils to a 6-1 win in a Palomar League baseball game Wednesday.

However, that will not move him into a regular starting role. High school teams generally play two games a week, and Mount Carmel already has starters Ed Van Aelstyn and Tom Cheek.

“We’ve been getting good pitching from Ed and Tom,” pitching Coach Ed O’Connor said. “Jimmy was late coming out because of basketball.”

Head Coach Sam Blalock: “We went with him today to get as many sharp pitchers as we can, and he had pitched well his last two outings.”

Van Aelstyn is 7-0 and Cheek is 5-2. Tejcek is 3-0, the last two wins as a starter, but he’s not complaining about his role.

“The other guys were three or four weeks ahead because we went to CIF in basketball,” Tejcek said, “but I felt good the whole game today.”

Orange Glen took a 1-0 lead in the fifth when Scott Carlovsky reached on an error, stole second and scored on a single by pinch-hitter Brett Salisbury.

Mount Carmel (8-0 in the league, 18-4 overall) took the lead with four runs in the top of the sixth with help from three Orange Glen errors. Triples by Ron Kelly and Miah Bradbury were the key hits. Richard Hooper and Pete Cowens added singles.

Orange Glen is 4-3, 12-7.
