Share

Five Huntington Beach High School graduates and two of the top players in the nation form one of the favored teams in the United States Volleyball Assn. national championships Monday through Saturday at Wichita State University.

Steve Timmons, a member of the 1984 gold-medal U.S. Olympic team, and Bob Ctvrtlik, the 1985 NCAA player of the year from Pepperdine, join the SBE/Raymond Construction team, which finished second in the 48-team event last season.

Timmons and Ctvrtlik join Rocky Ciarelli, Mike D’Allessandro, Dan Glenn and Tom Pestolesi--all Huntington Beach graduates and members of last year’s runners-up--on a team coached by Golden West College Coach Albert Gasparian, also a Huntington Beach graduate. Glenn is the volleyball coach at CIF 4-A finalist Edison, Pestolesi at Estancia and Ciarelli at Huntington Beach. D’Allesandro coaches Edison’s junior varsity.
