Stock car driver Richard Petty suffered a concussion but apparently was otherwise unhurt after crashing into a wall during a practice run at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Harrisburg, N.C.
A hospital spokeswoman said doctors in the emergency room believed that Petty suffered a slight concussion but were examining him for any additional injuries. A track spokesman said Petty was unconscious when he was taken to the track hospital but regained consciousness several minutes after the accident. However, he soon remembered everything and was joking. Petty is expected to be released today but will have to find a new car if he is to drive in Sunday’s World 600 race.
