The Soviet Union jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first four minutes Monday on goals by Pavel Yakovenko and Sergei Aleinikov en route to a 6-0 rout of Hungary in a Group C World Cup game.

The Soviets, playing without star forwards Oleg Protasov and Oleg Blokhin, pressed from the outset in the game at Irapuato, Mexico. The Hungarian defense failed to clear a free kick, and Yakovenko slammed the ball into the net from close range in the second minute.

Two minutes later, Aleinikov fired a low drive from 25 yards past goalkeeper Peter Disvpl.

Hungary seemed to regroup after that, but the Soviets struck again in the 24th minute on a goal off a penalty kick by Igor Belanov. Italian referee Luigi Agnolin awarded the penalty after Belanov was fouled by Josef Kardos.

Belanov’s kick soared into the top of the net to make it 3-0.

Poland 0, Morocco 0--At Monterrey, underdog Morocco produced the first surprise of the tournament, holding Poland, the top-seeded team in Group F, to a tie.

Poland nearly scored in the waning moments when a shot by Jan Urban, who earlier in the second half was robbed by a spectacular hand save by goalkeeper Badou Dzaki, hit the goalpost.
