The third of six all-comers track and field meets scheduled this summer at Birmingham High is slated for Wednesday. The meets, which are free, include dashes ranging from 50 meters to 400 meters, 800-meter run, 100-meter low hurdles, long jump, pole vault, shotput and discus.

Awards are given to the first three finishers in each event and to the top three winners at the championship meet, which will be held Aug. 1 at 7 p.m.

A cross-country clinic at 5 p.m. and a race at 6:30 p.m. will be held before Wednesday’s track meet.

Cowboys, Raiders to Open Summer Camps

The Dallas Cowboys’ summer training camp opens Sunday at Cal Lutheran with the arrival of the team’s rookie prospects, who will undergo physicals and begin workouts Monday. The rest of the Dallas squad is scheduled to arrive July 13. Free, public workouts begin the next day.

In Oxnard, L.A. Raider rookies are scheduled to arrive July 16 with all veterans expected to report July 24 at the team’s new training facility.

Pierce to Host 2-Week Football Camp

A two-week football camp for boys and girls ages 9 through 14 will be held at Pierce College, beginning Monday. The camp will run Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Bob O’Connor, former athletic director at Pierce, will head a list of coaches at the camp which will concentrate on techniques, weight training and film analysis. Registration will be Monday at 9 a.m. in the Pierce gym. The cost is $85. Information (818) 347-0551, extension 499.

Kevin Eden of Granada Hills finished fifth in the boys division of the Southern California Junior Golf Championships, with a score of 222 for the 54 holes on the Industry Hills course. He finished 11 strokes behind tournament winner Bob May of La Habra.

Angela Burnham of Rio Mesa High will compete in the national age-group track and field championships at San Jose City College this weekend.

The state high school champion at 100 meters, Burnham, 14, won the 100- and 200-meter dashes at the state age-group championships two weeks ago. Competing in the intermediate division (for athletes born in 1970 or ‘71), she will run in the 100 and 200, and the 400- and 1,600-meter relays.

The 400-meter relay final is today while the finals of the 100, 200 and 1,600-meter relays will be run Sunday.

Chris Lillich, an infielder and pitcher for Camarillo High, will play for Westmont College next year. Lillich batted .439 with 5 home runs and 26 runs batted in for the Scorpions last season.

Joe Stack of Mission Hills won the 14-15 division of the Desert Hot Springs golf tournament, shooting a 76 over 18 holes at the Mission Lakes Country Club.

Sherry Andonian of Camarillo failed to hold a two-day lead in the Long Beach City Championship last week and finished third because of a 79 on the third round.

On the El Dorado Golf Course, she bogeyed her first two holes, double-bogeyed the next two en route to the 79 that left her with a three-round total of 232, only two strokes behind winner Judy Greco (230), and one stroke behind second-place finisher Linda Christianson (231).
