Authorities are investigating the apparent murder-suicide of a couple found shot to death in their Thousand Oaks condominium Friday morning.

The couple, Louis Lenzi, 52, and his wife, Florence, 48, were found in the master bedroom of their home on Silver Maple Circle, Ventura County sheriff’s deputies said. Each had multiple gunshot wounds, Lt. Larry Weimer said.

Deputies were called to the home at about 6:30 a.m. by the couple’s son, Nick Lenzi, 18, who said he woke up Friday and heard his parents arguing. The youth said he entered his parents’ bedroom and saw his father threatening his mother with a shotgun.

Weimer reported that the youth said he tried and failed to wrest the gun from his father and left the house to get help. He said he heard gunshots as he was leaving.

After trying several times to contact the home by telephone, the Sheriff’s Department sent its Special Weapons and Tactics team, which broke into the house about 9:30 a.m. They found the two bodies, Weimer said, adding that no one else was in the house.

Evidence indicated that Louis Lenzi shot his wife, then turned the gun on himself, Weimer said, declining to elaborate.

Family members told police that the couple had been having marital problems, Weimer said.

Police called a counselor from the Ventura County Mental Health Department to meet with Nick Lenzi, Weimer said.
