San Clemente’s Andino Advances in Surfing
Deno Andino of San Clemente was among 48 unseeded surfers to advance from a field of 96 to the second round of the $5,000 Trim Malibu Classic Friday.
The first round took place in small, one- to three-foot surf that is expected to pick up through the weekend at Second Point Beach, one-quarter mile north of Malibu Pier.
The top 16 seeded surfers, including top-ranked Brian McNulty of Capistrano Beach, received first-round byes. The second round begins today at 7.
In the bodyboarding competition, Keith Sasaki of San Clemente and Joe Foster of Newport Beach were among the 12 riders to advance out of a field of 24. The final for both events is Sunday.
