Hagler Agrees to Fight Leonard

NEW YORK —
Middleweight champion Marvelous Marvin Hagler has agreed to fight former welterweight champ Sugar Ray Leonard in March, 1987, it was announced today. Hagler had considered retirement, primarily because his wife did not want him to fight again. He also had been reluctant to accept a fight with Leonard because Sugar Ray had been idle for more than two years and Hagler felt the ex-champ should fight a ranked contender before reaching for the title.
