L.A. Teams Win 2 Titles at Games

Two Los Angeles-based basketball teams won championships Thursday at the Junior Maccabee Games in Toronto.

Montclair Prep’s David Sanger scored 19 points to lead the boys team over the National Team of Israel, 74-55.

Jon Drezner of Calabasas added 10 points for the boys team, which was undefeated in seven games. Israel had difficulty with the much taller Los Angeles team and trailed 20-7 after the first quarter.

The girls team successfully defended its title with a 41-30 victory over Chicago.

Alemany’s Jenny Beubis, who led Los Angeles (5-0) in each game, had 21 points in the final, and Chatsworth Academy’s Stacy Waco finished with nine rebounds.

In track and field competition, David Feinstein, who will be a junior at Taft High this year, won both the 100- and 200-yard dashes.

Feinstein, who lives in Tarzana, won the 100 in 11.3 seconds Monday, and the 200 in 23.1 seconds Tuesday. He was also part of the 400-meter relay team that finished first and a mile-relay team that placed fourth.
