Louis Skertich of Culver City, star pitcher for Loyola High School last season, was a member of a U.S. all-star team that completed a playing tour of Japan and China in August. Skertich, who had a 10-3 record for Loyola last spring, will attend the University of San Diego this fall on a baseball scholarship.
Winners of the first tennis competition at the Veterans Administration in West Los Angeles were:
A Division for men and women, Sid Finegold, first place, and Arthur Dorame, second; B Division, Del Ng and Natividad Cattell tie for first, and Alice Montcalm, second.
A Division for women, Annie Chang and Kathy Macleod, tie for first, and Cattell, second.
The Culver City Babe Ruth League all-star baseball team of 14-year-olds posted an 8-1 record to win the recent Los Angeles City Pan Pacific Tournament.
Team members were Albarro Ibarla, Justin Wikson, Ty Miller, Mat Amanoff, John Myro, Justin Satinover, Bill Mitchell, Troy Dunlap, Alex Bravo, Adam White, Dennis Heineman and Bret Garcia. Tim Brice was the manager and Harold Garcia was the coach.
