Ex-Ram Kemp Will Start for 49ers Sunday
Jeff Kemp, who didn’t get much of a chance in his five years with the Rams, will start at quarterback in place of injured Joe Montana when the San Francisco 49ers play his old teammates Sunday at Anaheim Stadium.
The decision was made Friday by 49er Coach Bill Walsh, who was convinced that Montana would not be ready to play because of an injured back. Montana was hurt in last Sunday’s 31-7 win over Tampa Bay and has not practiced all week.
“Crazy things have happened all along,” Kemp said. “So it’s not terribly hard to believe. But it is kind of ironic.
“I’m not worried about the reception at the beginning of the game. I’m just worried about what it will be at the end. Maybe I’ll hear a few booes when we beat the Rams.”
