Saddleback College, mythical state champion in 1985, is the top-rated team in the preseason Southland community college football poll of sports information directors.

Saddleback, which also tops the J.C. Athletic Bureau’s state preseason poll, garnered 5 of 10 first-place votes in the Southland poll. Fullerton, rated second, got three first-place votes, No. 3 Taft had two and No. 5 Glendale had one.

Valley College, rated 11th in the final 1985 Southland poll, was given honorable mention.

World famous pool player Willie Moscone will appear at the Fairfield Harbortown Hotel in Ventura on Sept. 26 as part of a fund-raiser for child abuse. The event is sponsored by Crown Custom Pool Tables and the East Ventura Jaycees. Admission is $10.
