PREP FOOTBALL : Riddell and Costa Mesa Beat Estancia
Tyler Riddell scored four touchdowns and gained 215 yards in total offense Friday to lead Costa Mesa High to a 26-6 victory over Estancia in front of 2,200 at Newport Harbor’s Davidson Field.
“We’ve been waiting for this for a long time,” Riddell said after the Mustangs broke a four-game losing streak against their city rivals.
Riddell,a 5-foot, 8-inch senior, rushed for 178 yards, including touchdown runs of 3, 8, 20 and 44 yards, and caught 3 passes for 37. “If we give him the ball enough times, there’s no way you’re going to contain him all night,” said Costa Mesa coach Tom Baldwin.
Estancia could only manage a fourth quarter touchdown, Todd Brooks hitting Seth Kolasniski with a 21-yard pass. The run for an two extra points failed.
