WFC Roundup : Richard Leads Southern Utah Past Western Montana
Quarterback Chad Richard threw two touchdown passes and ran for two others as Southern Utah State defeated Western Montana, 50-7, in a nonconference game Saturday night at Cedar City, Utah.
Richard was 9 of 15 passing for 140 yards. Southern Utah (3-1) amassed 563 yards in offense to Western Montana’s 80.
Running back Kyle Wilson, who opened the scoring with a 38-yard touchdown run, led all rushers with 152 yards. Richard scored on a 40-yard run early in the second quarter to take a 13-0 lead.
The Bulldogs managed to cut the lead to 13-7 in the second quarter, but Richard began his offensive assault with a 39-yard scoring pass to Thane Marshall, a one-yard touchdown run and a 39-yard scoring pass, this one to Rob Edwards.
UC Davis 32, Cal Poly SLO 21--Quarterback Chris Petersen threw four touchdown passes to lead UC Davis. Petersen, who led the NCAA Division II in passing last year, completed 13 of 22 for 232 yards. He connected on first-half passes of 80 and 28 yards to wide receiver Wayne Adkins.
Cal Poly scored touchdowns on Robert Perez’s 24-yard pass to wide receiver Lance Martin, and Cornell Williams’ two-yard run. The team also had two field goals and one two-point conversion.
Chico St. 35, Santa Clara 8--Chico State quarterback Craig Wallis enjoyed a sensational first half, completing 17 of 22 passes for 259 yards and 2 touchdowns. In the process, he broke Chico State’s career completion record with his 11th completion of the half.
Santa Clara, ranked tenth in th NCAA Division II poll this week, never got on track against the aggressive Wildcat defense.
